Abstract:The article deals with the economic, environmental and social function problems of small farms (small farms were defined as operating 1–5 hectares of agricultural land). Based on the data from the Statistical Office for 2010 year, there is evidence tthat small farms, more than the others, develop a concept of sustainable agriculture, however different forms of multifunctional agriculture on a small scale are implemented by these farms. In regions with a high percentage of small farms participation it has been observed that there is a negative influence on agriculture sector competitiveness, because of the very limited number of larger farms producing goods for non-agricultural links of the food chain, and a market obstacle of agricultural land transfer from small farms to the other farms.
