Abstract:

Obtained results provide a structural framework for elucidating molecular mechanisms that govern the altered shape and can be used for further research on the factors determining neurogenesis, which depend on the shape of the nucleus, such as the composition of nuclear lamina, chromatin organization or epigenetic mechanisms. The developed method allowed to perform a detailed three-dimensional analysis of the nuclear shape. Until now the altered nuclear shape of NSC has not been described, it has been observed in progenitor cells (type-2 cells) of adult hippocampal neurogenesis (Kempermann et al. 2004), and the presence of ELCS in three NSC has been demonstrated (Cebrian-Silla et al. 2017). Furthermore, the developed method can be used to analyze the nuclear shape of other eukaryotic cells, which can be a valuable diagnostic tool in cancer or other diseases related to nuclear shape changes.
