Zmierzono tempo zużycia tlenu u młodych Suncus murinus (Linnaeus, 1766), ryjówki należącej do podrodziny Crocidurinae a zamieszkującej obszary subtropikalne i tropikalne. Stwierdzono, że tempo metabolizmu jest najwyższe u osobników najmłodszych, w pierwszych dniach po urodzeniu a stabilizacja do poziomu właściwego dorosłym następuje w drugim tygodniu życia (Tabela 1, Ryc. 1).
