Na terytorium obecnej Polski dziki królik przedostał się na skutek licznych osiedleń, prowadzonych głównie przez myśliwych, w drugiej połowie XIX wieku stulecia. Drugorzędne znaczenie miało naturalne rozprzestrzenianie się, było ono jednak czynnikiem, który z początkiem naszego stulecia ukształtował zwarty areał dzikiego królika na obszarach kraju.
