Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Necrosis praecipue coagultiva corticis cerebri. Atheromatosis cerebri. Atrophia disseminata corticalis. Autopsy examination of 74-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E, orcein, Heidenhain, Holzer, Bielschowsky, Nissl, Perdrau and Van Gieson's method. The lesions involved mainly large arteries and had the typical features of atherosclerotic changes. The vessel walls were unevenly thickened, the lumen narrowed, some vessels were partially filled with thrombus. Extensive thrombotic, partially hemorrhagic necrosis was seen in the frontal, parietal and occipital regions. No symptoms of a status lacunaris were observed. No typical senile degeneration was seen.
