Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Necrosis permagna /coma prolongata/. Angioma cerebri. Putrefactio. Autopsy examination of 5-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sect ions stained with cresyl-violet and Van Gieson's method. The specimens were stained irregularly and cracked. In the meninges numerous thin-walled, wide, sometimes glomerulus-like vessels were observed. An inflammatory infiltration consisting of disintegrated cells, single leukocytes, macrophages and lymphocytes was visible over the distal parietal lobe in a limited area. This infiltrate penetrated deep into the cortex through the VR spaces. The condition of nerve and glial cells was difficult to evaluate. Hemosiderin was found perivasculary and inside the cells. The structure of the white matter was markedly loosened, spongy, and in some areas the tissue was disintegrating. In the trunk the tissue disintegration was complete. There were prominent features of edema and congestion. There were no characteristic microscopic findings in the vessel suspected macroscopically of thrombotic lesions.
