Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia recens. Cysticercosis in reg. hypothalami dex Encephalomalacia. Tapeworm cyst in hypothalamus. Autopsy examination of 72-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained by H-E, Van Gieson's stain. At the right side of hypothalamus a circular formation made of collagen fibers, and vessels intensively staining red in van Gieson, strongly separated from healthy tissue was observed. Vitreous masses, structure less tissue, blood cells, macrophages were seen, sometimes covered with pseudocalcium salts. In the external parts of these masses Langshans type giant cells and lymphocytes were observed. This structure probably corresponds to tapeworm cyst. In the neural tissue limiting broad glial shaft and swollen vessels were visible, macrophages with hemosiderin were present in their vicinity. In the outer parts of the basal ganglia, a fresh focus of malacia was seen. Pseudocalcium salt deposition was observed..
