Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Laesiones cellularae disperae. Autopsy examination of 11-week-old infant was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained by Hematoxylin-eosin, Cresyl violet and Van Gieson's stain.Due to the extensive putrefactive process, the specimen were difficult to evaluate. Throughout the central nervous system, features of tissue swelling were found, with disruption of interlobular oligodendroglial, thinning of perivascular spaces and slight thickening of the glia around some vessels. Despite the significant putrefaction process, there were areas with preserved nerve cells, which revealed features of a chronic disease process. In the cerebellum, a complete separation of the molecular layer from the granular cell layer was seen. The remaining Purkinje cells were often ischemically altered or disintegrated.
