Date issued/created: Subject and Keywords: Abstract:Cytochromes are enzymes which play very important role in human metabolism. These proteins contain hem as prostetic group. In vivo cytochromes are responsible for energy production and drug metabolism. Cytochromes occur in almost all human cells. Many classes of cytochromes are known but only four classes have been used in biotechnology so far. These are cytochrome c, cytochrome P-450, cytochrome hj and cytochrome bs Cytochrome c and cytochrome P-450 catalyse oxidizing reactions of organic compounds. These reactions are similar to the reactions which occur in human body.
