Abstract:There are certain types of expressions and some of their elements and components that are in a transitionsphere between the appellative and proprial lexicon. Their proprial or appellative character depends ontheir use in society and on their functioning in communication. Ethnonyms are traditionally considereda typical example of such expressions. Nevertheless, it is also anoikonyms that stand close to appellativesin the vocabulary system, because in the process of their forming the transition from appellativesto proper names is fluent and their formation is based on the appellative vocabulary and word-formationprocesses typical of appellative word-formation. The paper deals with some types of Slovak anoikonymsthat can be described as standing on the appellative-proprial border.
