Abstract:The paper deals with popular (non-standardized) toponymy in the Moravian village of Rusava, whichwas founded in the 17th century. Located in the Hostýnské vrchy and surrounded by forests, the villagehas become predominantly a tourist region. The results of the survey, which was conducted in years2015 and 2016, are presented in this paper. Popular place names were collected in interviews with localinhabitants. General knowledge and usage of selected place names were investigated during subsequentquestionnaire survey. Data were analysed with regards to social characteristics of the respondents andtheir relation to the locality. The research showed connections between toponymy, its users and the area.The main aspects influencing the knowledge and usage of toponymy are: age, length of stay, knowledgeof the area, knowledge of the dialect, opinion about renaming, interest in community life and feelingsabout home. Compared to different areas, the main aspect influencing knowledge and usage of toponymywas socio-economic character of the area, especially if the area is a tourist destination.
