Abstract:

A 78-year-old patient was examined. A biceps biopsy was performed.Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed ultrastructurally unchanged muscle fibers characterized bypreserved sarcomeres structure and normal sub-membranous nucleus surrounded by lipofuscindeposits.Damaged mitochondria with light mitochondrial matrix, lack of cristae and fat droplets inside wereobserved.It may be the result of carnitine palmitoyltransferase deficiency or the age ofpatient.
