Abstract:

The author carried out his experiments in the summer of 1958 on the “First crop” early cabbage (l hectare experimental plot No. l) and the “Amager 1ow-soil” late cabbage (l hectare experimental plot No. 2) on the Łomna estate, and on early cabbage (plot No. 3 - 0,75 hectare) on his own experimental fields at Palmiry near Warsaw. The results of these experiments are as follows:l. As a result of releasing once only Trichogramma evanescens to attack the second generatlion of Plutella maculipennis, 68% of infested eggs were obtained from the plot dominated by the parasites (Tab. I), whereas the density of occurence of caterpillars on the plot in question, compared with the control plot, was reduced by 57,7% (Tab. II).2. As a result of the biological pest warfare employing the Trichogramma evanescens on experimental plots of “First crop” early cabbage, the concentration of the caterpillars of Pieris brassicae and P. rapae on the plots dominated by the parasites was decreased, in comparison with control plots, by an average of 73,1% and 75,5% (Tab. I, II, III). On the other hand, the concentration of the caterpillars of Plutella maculipennis on the “Amager low-soil” experimentally grown cabbage was reduced by an average of 81,2% (Talb. IV). Bio1ogical pest warfare with the cabbage pests Plutella maculipennis Curt., Pieris brassicae L. and Pieris rapae L. using Trichogramma evanescens is extrimely effective.
