Abstract:Within the framework of classical thermodynamics two workable models of pseudoelastic behavior of shape memory alloys are developed. The so-called R-model undergoes only reversible processes and constitutes the generalization of the classical Maxwell model of phase transformation. The other model (RL-model) includes interaction energy. It predicts formation of external and internal hysteresis loops, and complies with the Clausius-Duhem inequality. The full set of coupled incremental constitutive relations are derived for both models. They enable us to determine phase composition, stress and heat exchange with surroundings under imposed strain and temperature variations, and are presumed to be valid at complex stress state. Specific form of kinetic law for phase transformations is suggested which contains only two constants
