Description:

Photography (scan from a slide). The photo shows one of the participants of nocturnal rituals during the annual feast in Lodai. Organized by kachchi rabari, but also take part in it dheberiya rabari. Inside the temple there is a small image of the goddess adorned in red robes you can see on both sides tridents. On the ground lies a few bells and fire burns. On the wall of the temple is fabric that hangs over the entrance (torana). In the foreground you can see a man in a black-purple turban. Picture is taken during the rite of Mommai Mata, which is made at night near the town of Lodai. Participants gather around the shrine lies on the outskirts of the village - men sit on the the shrine, singing and playing drums, falling into a trance, dance, and a woman sitting on the ground all around. The ritual lasts all night - from dusk to dawn. The ceremony takes place in the month of Chaitra Sud 7
