Photography (scan from a slide). The photo shows the sacrifice to the male deity Vachchada dada. An older man in a red turban serves as a medium (bhopa) responsible. He prepares the sacrifice in front of one of the figures of deities (bas-relief painted in red). On the back you can see children watching preparations. Picture was taken during the rite of Vachchada Dada, which takes place in Bhujodi at night. Participants gather around the shrine which lies on the outskirts of the village - men sit on the shrine, are singing and playing drums, falling into a trance, dance, and women sitting on the ground all around. The ritual lasts all night - from dusk to dawn. The ceremony takes place in the month of Magser Sud, first Monday
