Description:

Photography (scan from a slide). Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, Bikaner District Rajasthan. Temple dedicated to the goddess Karni Mata, the tutelary deity of the Rajputs from Rathor clan. Temple is known that the practices are carried out by Charans, and the area of the temple and its surroundings inhabited by rats. In this enclave rats are fed. Faithful bring sacrifice for the goddess in the form of food. They wait until their gifts will be eaten by rats. This is due to the belief that animals, in this case, rats, symbolically represent deceased ancestors and relatives. Their behaviors are signs of the condition of the soul after the death of the deceased. The photo shows the stone floor, metal buckets for washing floors and two rats
