Description:

Photography (scan from a slide). Memorial stones (paliya) is set to commemorate a specific person suddenly died. They are usually placed at the border village or towns. They are built of stone, on which are engraved the symbols indicating the person and the signature in the local language (Gujarati here). Valid certain symbolism (the rider on the horse or camel, shrine, a female figure, hand raised up). Hand raised up points to the tragic death of a woman. At the top round shapes represent the sun and the moon. A place overgrown with acacia trees. The custom of placing Memorial stones is known throughout the Indian subcontinent.
