Photography (scan from a slide). Memorial stones (paliya) are set to commemorate a particular person died suddenly. They are usually placed at the border of the village. They are made of stone, on which are engraved symbols identifying the person and the signature of the local language (Gujarati here). There are some symbols (rider on a horse or a camel, a shrine, a female figure, hands raised up). The photo shows a rider on a camel with a sword in his hand. At the top are round shapes represent the sun and the moon. On the right side you can see the neighboring one. The custom of placing memorial stones is known all over the Indian subcontinent
