Tekst zawiera opis funkcjonowania systemu cenzury w PRL ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem cenzurowania bibliotek. Artykuł prezentuje dyskusje o różnorodnych formach cenzury, jaka występuje we współczesnych bibliotekach krajów zachodnich. Autor zwraca uwagę na brak tego typu dyskusji w III RP oraz brak refleksji na temat udostępniania zbiorów o treściach kontrowersyjnych.
