Abstract:he article is dedicated to economic anthropology as an interesting perspective in farmers’, peasants’ and agriculture studies. This discipline had emerged in early 20th century and since then it has developed significantly, with a rich tradition of peasants’ and agriculture study. Comparative perspective of economic anthropology (ethnographic materials from many societies all over the world) offers a wider view of issues related to agriculture. In this article the history of the discipline has been shown alongside the spectrum of its topics which could be of interest for Polish researchers who work in agriculture. The basic statement of economic anthropology is that all peoples’ deeds are socially and culturally embodied. Economic actors are always influenced by a certain socio-cultural context. The conviction about the crucial role of this context and specific methodology (long-term ethnographic fieldwork) – both create an interesting framework for theoretical consideration of agriculture.
