Description:

A mountain hare, Lepus timidus Linnaeus, 1758, population was followed from 1973 to 1978 on Lilla Karlsö island in the Baltic Sweden. Density estimates were first based on direct counts, and later on marking and re-observation of hares. The density was fairly stable at a very high level, about 400 hares on 160 ha, for several years.
