Object description:

Photo (scan from slide). The photo shows old figures of deities thrown from the temples into the waters of the Ganges in the village of Hardvar. In the background you can see the bridge over the river. There are hundreds of Hindu temples in Hardvar, geared towards receiving pilgrims. This is one of the most important pilgrimage sites on the Ganges. One of the most important Hindu holidays - kumbh mela takes place here every 12 years.
