[A wooden cottage] [An iconographic document]
Date issued/created: Description:The photo depicts a timber hut, partially obscured by branches of a tree growing next to it. The photo is in a very bad state. According to the photo's owner, it depicts a wooden hut, in which during the war he occupied one room (around 15 m2) which also was used for underground teaching. The cottage was located just on the road leading form Olsztyn to Turów and was obscured by fruit trees and bushes, almost invisible. It stood approximately 30 meters from a rail stop. It was already decrepit at the time and was demolished after the war. Today, in its place there is a one-storey brick house. Under the miniature there is the inscription saying: "An underground school in the village of Turów - a division of the underground high school No. 3 in Częstochowa" ; 1939-1945, Turów, com. Olsztyn, voiv. śląskie ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
