Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Focus encephalomalaciae inveterata reg. temporalis. Haemorrhagia recens thalami.Autopsy examination of 62-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method. An old post-malacic cyst was seen in the temporal region. Remnants of hemosiderin-laden macrophages and rather sparse proliferating fibroblasts were found within it. A fresh, round hemorrhagic focus was observed in the thalamus, expanding relatively unchanged tissue. The vessels in the basal ganglia showed extensive atherosclerotic changes, with a tendency to narrow the vascular lumen.
