Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia.Autopsy examination of 66-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method. The parietal lobe showed a focus of malacia with a macrophage dissection and fibroblastic organization. In the basal ganglia /thalamus/, a focus of reactionless dissolution of tissue was seen. Vessels with fairly advanced atherosclerosis were seen around the focus. Tissue loss was observed in the medulla. The surrounding tissue lacked cellular reaction, groups of fairly well preserved anterior horn neurons were visible next to the lesion.
