Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Haemorrhagia cerebri.Autopsy examination of 71-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson. The edge of the hemorrhagic focus was visible on preparations with the frontal and temporal cortex and basal nuclei. Masses of fresh red blood cells had dislodged the tissue and penetrated the intratissue spaces. The neural tissue surrounding the focus showed unaltered structure. Single macrophages were present in a few areas. Red blood cells were present in the subarachnoid spaces. Gliosis was present throughout the brain; most prominent in the cortex and striatum - hypertrophied astrocyte nuclei and "naked nucleus"-like formations were observed.
