Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Oedema cerebri. Stasis vascularis.Autopsy examination of 46-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson. No focal injury was observed in the analyzed specimens. Except for very large edematous changes and vascular stasis, combined with local blood cell transudation into the tissue per diapedesis (dorsal surface of the medulla oblongata) no other changes were observed. Cellular changes of ischemic type, sometimes severe, were found in several cells of the medulla oblongata. The vessels showed fibrous and sometimes vitreous changes. Few lymphocyte-like cells were seen around some vessels.
