Doświadczenie przeprowadzono w Białowieskim Parku Narodowym, w grądzie niskim dwukrotnie, latem i jesienią. Na badanej powierzchni o boku 195 m ustawiono pułapki żywołowne, po dwie w każdym z 392 punktów, rozmieszczonych w więźbie 15x15 m. Przez 12 dób prowadzono kontrolę tych pułapek, znakując i wypuszczając złowione gryzonie. Prowadzono w tym czasie kalendarz złowień.
