W niniejszej pracy zebrano wyniki badań Zakładu Zoologii Instytutu Biologii Uralskiej Filii Akademii Nauk ZSRR dotyczących biologicznej specyfiki szeregu gatunków gryzoni. Przy analizie otrzymanych wyników zwrócono uwagę na poznanie ogólnych praw rządzących procesem starzenia się u ssaków. Badania prowadzono od 1951 roku, zarówno w warunkach eksperymentalnych, jak i w terenie, w różnych strefach ktajobrazowych (od stepów do tundry).
