Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Status lacunaris. Foci encephalomalaciae multiplices.Autopsy examination of 85-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.Numerous perivascular sinuses were present in the bridge, basal ganglia, and frontal lobe, progressing to more extensive diffuse necrosis with poor organizational response. Large necroses were also found in the cortex of the frontal gyri. The bottom of the third ventricle was also softened. Atherosclerotic and sclerotic vascular changes were observed.
