Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia inveterata cortico-subcorticalis lobi frontalis, parietalis et occipitalis sin. Focus vasogenes parvus in regione lobi occipitalis dextri. Atrophia cerebri. Arteriosclerosis gradu magno.Autopsy examination of 83-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.In the central region, necrosis with numerous macrophages and mild connective tissue proliferation was observed. In the frontal region, spongiform thinning in the white matter with edematous demyelination was noted. Atherosclerotic and sclerotic lesions were prominent - cortical capillaries were severely damaged. There were no signs of central nervous system syphilis in any form.
