Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia recens.Autopsy examination of 74-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method. The white matter of the frontal and temporal lobe showed numerous areas of reduced tissue staining and thinned areas. The number of cellular elements in these parts was markedly reduced. In the head of the caudate nucleus and partially in the putamen, blood-injected vessels, hemorrhages by diapedesis and perivascular or loose leukocyte infiltrates in the tissue were observed. In addition, isolated perivascular lacunae in the putamen were present. In the globus pallidus, pseudocalcium salts deposits were found in the vessels. Throughout the nervous system, the vessels were fibrously altered.
