Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Malacia cerebri multilocularis.Autopsy examination of 75-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.Diffuse foci of encephalomalacia were found, at different stages of organization. In the frontal region, there was fresh incomplete necrosis with spongy thinning of white matter and corresponding discoloration of myelin /H-E/. Multiple perivascular petechiae by diapedesis were observed at the edges of the focus within the cortex. Within the basal ganglia, typical status lacunaris with extensive empty "sinuses" at the vessels was observed. An old focus with prominent abundant collagen fiber proliferation was seen in the occipital region.
