Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia: Necrosis coagulativa.Autopsy examination of 58-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.A focus of typical thrombotic necrosis was seen in the basal ganglia, surrounded by macrophage and astrocytic cellular reaction, with numerous stimulated vessels. In the temporal lobe focus, numerous fresh, foam-like macrophages were found in a reticular network of fragile, young collagen fibers.
