Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Focus haemorrhagicus encephalomalaciam. Oedema et hyperaemia cerebri. Arterio et arteriolosclerosis gradu mediocri. Autopsy examination of 76-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, cresyl-violet, Holzer, Heidenhain and Van Gieson's method.A hemorrhagic focus surrounded by a malacia field was found within the white matter of the left parietal lobe. The softening lesion progressed to the adjacent ventricle. The extravasated blood was also present in the subarachnoid space. In the basal nuclei, status lacunaris without macrophage reaction was seen. Features of edema and congestion, moderate gliosis and thinning of neural cellular elements were observed throughout the brain.
