Abstract:Histological Diagnosis: Encephalomalacia hemisphaerium dextri in decursu thrombosis art. cerebri mediae dextrae. Autopsy examination of 83-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, Cresyl violet, Orcein and Van Gieson's method.Gliosis was found in the periphery of the markedly dilated perivascular spaces. In addition, edema and congestion and nerve cell loss were evident. Multiple petechiae were also observed, both intraparenchymal and into the subarachnoid space. Edema, congestion and nerve cell loss were also seen in the brain stem and cerebellum. Partial disintegration of substantia nigra cells was found. Multiple leukocytic thrombi were present within the vessels. The larger caliber arteries had atherosclerotic plaques, the arterioles were altered.
