Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Arteriosclerosis cerebri. Status lacunaris. Autopsy examination of 65-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, alcian blue, PAS and van Gieson method. The vessels were significantly changed by atherosclerosis. Lymphocytes were observed at single vessels. Isomorphic gliosis was present in the inner capsule. In the insula cortex, cellular atrophy and ischemic disorders were observed, besides, almost all cells presented features of fatty degeneration. Numerous amyloid granules were seen in the head of the caudate nucleus under the lining and at the margins of the amygdala and optic tract. The sample was probably taken from the vicinity of the focus.
