Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encepahlomacia recens. Autopsy examination of 84-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and PAS method. The left frontal lobe presented a fresh focus of softening destroying the white matter and cortex. The tissue in the focus was loosened, contained numerous macrophages, stimulated vessels and glia. In the cortex, the anatomical structure was completely obliterated and nerve cells were almost completely absent. In the vessels, large atherosclerotic lesions were observed, with hemorrhages by diapedesis in places. Single macrophages and lymphocytes were seen in the meninges. Besides, features of edema and congestion were found.
