Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Focus encephalomalaciae in regione parieto occipitalis et focus haemorrhagicus cerebelli. Autopsy examination of 76-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin, PAS and Van Gieson's method. The parietal lobe specimen showed a large area of partially hemorrhagic necrosis surrounded by an extensive area of incomplete necrosis. A hemorrhagic focus surrounded by macrophages was present in the cerebellar white matter. Glial connective tissue reaction and extensive area of incomplete necrosis with intense white matter gliosis were seen. Moderate features of atherosclerosis were observed.
