Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia rubra. Thrombosis arteriae cerebri mediae sinistrae. Atrophia cerebri gradu magno. Autopsy examination of 66-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E, PAS and Van Gieson's method.The left basal ganglia showed a focus of thrombotic, diffuse hemorrhagic necrosis. The insular cortex showed large cellular defects, foci of incomplete necrosis, cellular disorders of ischemic type. Fresh thrombus was present in the lumen of the middle cerebral artery. Platelets as well as hemolyzed and fresh blood cells were seen.
