Abstract:

The killer factor is widely spread in yeasts. This phenomenon has been detected in representatives.ofdifferent genus. The yeasts are immune to their own killer protein. In cooperation with nuclear genes thekiller factor is brought about by virus-like particles occuring in yeast cytoplasm. The killer protein is boundto the cell wall receptors of a sensitive strain and then it kills the cell by changing the permeability of themembranes. In addition to the studies on the killer protein properties, its possible utilization is being investigated.
