Description:

The photo depicts a woman in a dark festive blouse and a string of beads (resembling pearls). The photo was taken in a photographic studio. On the back of the photo there is the inscription: “The photo taken on 15 VI 1944 by A. Stuglik in Andrychów, currently in Bielsko-Biała voivodeship. It is a portrait of a Polish peasant woman Stanisława (...) who at that time resided in Grojec (a village located 6 kilometres south of Oświęcim)” ; 15th July 1944, Andrychów / Grojec near Oświęcim ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
