Abstract:

The review presents the results of recent studies on the multidomain structure of a-amylasesand the mechanism of splitting of a-l,4-glycosidic bond catalysed by these enzymes. The modelof the catalytic domain A of a-amylases as well as the localisation and the way of binding ofcalcium ions are also described.
