[A gathering of women and girls] [An iconographic document]
Date issued/created: Description:The photo depicts a large group of women and girls posing for the photo with holy medals / medallions (?) fastened on their necks. Some of them are wearing dark festive regional costumes and some are in white dresses. There are also several priest among the people depicted in the photo. Visible in the middle is a banner raised above the group. The photo was taken outside in a meadow with a forest in the distance. According to its owner, the photo comes from 1935 and depicts a Marian Association of girls and women of the Holy Virgin Mary parish in Pszów, made up of the female residents of all neighbouring villages that constituted the Pszów parish. These villages were: Krzyżkowice, Zawada, Lubomia, Kokoszyce. A membership of such an association was a duty of every unmarried girl and married woman. In the post-war years this custom was gradually expire ; 1935, Pszów ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
