Description:

The photo depicts a smiling elderly woman in a headscarf who is sitting on a doorstep of a timber hut. There are two large bags next to her feet. At the back of the photo there is an inscriptio: “An orphans’ guardian July 1994, Franciszka (…). She is taking food to Czarna Wieś Kościel. to her orphans. A basement – a shelter in July 1944 Horodni(…)”. According to the photo’s owner, it depicts a sister of Anna (…) who helped in caring for orphans in 1944. The basement of the district forest management served as a shelter during the war ; July 1944, Horodnianka ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
