Abstrakt:

The subject of this article are genetically German contemporary Polish surnames created on the basis ofnames of professions. The material has been excerpted from Słownik nazwisk używanych w Polsce napoczątku XXI wieku (The Dictionary of Surnames Used in Poland at the Beginning of the 21st Century).The author analyses surnames derived from terms referring to craftsmen involved in professions suchas miller, butcher, baker or smith. The rich onomastic material shows variation both in the dialectmorphologicalaspect (Moeller of Low German origin and Mueller from High German dialects) and inthe lexical aspect, exemplified by the term denoting the butcher in various German dialects: Schlachter,Fleischer, Metzger or Metzler. The material examined in the article also contains the preserved phenomena and processes of historical phonetic change, which the author outlines as well.
