Description:

The photo depicts transport of rye. A multigenerational family are standing around a horse-drawn cart loaded with mowed rye. A man is standing on the cart and receiving rye sheafs. Beside the cart there are an elderly woman in a kerchief holding a rake, two smiling girls and a young man in a cap handing sheafs. There is an inscription on the back of the photo: “He is helping his grandmother (…) with transporting the rye to the barn during the harvest in 1944/ he is the coachman and holds the reins / granddaughter Urszulka [Ursula](…) now a master of mathematics and lives in Warsaw. The grandmother is standing in the front, she died very old / she was 91/ the photo taken by an amateur/ name unknown/ in the village and former community Grzymkowice, Skierniewice district”; summer 1944, Grzymkowice Village , Łódź voivodeship ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
