Muscle segment examination in light & electon microscopy

Abstract:

An 64-year-old patient with suspected polymyositis was examined. A biopsy of vastus was performed. Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed the damage to muscle fibers on some sections characterized by the presence of areas with myofibril loss. In addition, mitochondria showed abnormal structure, and there were numerous vacuolar structures in the sarcoplasm.
