[The funeral procession] [An iconographic document]
Date issued/created: Description:The photo shows a funeral procession and mourners gathered around the coffin. There is also a large group of people dressed in black and women in black kerchieves. Some farm buildings and houses with thatched roofs are visible in the background. Apparent from the description of the owner of the photo it shows the funeral of her 20-years-old uncle, her mother’s brother (…) who died of illness acquired in a German labor camp. The funeral procession is leaving with the dead on his last journey from Szklarka Przygrodzicka Village to the village of Czarnylas, where the cemetery was located; November 20th, 1942, Szklarka Przygodzicka Village ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
